We’re not 100% sure how to pronounce it but the Sumire set is a really interesting development from Canon. It’s a departure from their usual quest for clean and clear optics and instead is developed to include some of the character you’d expect from a more vintage design.
There is an amount of detuning gone on so that although they’re tack sharp on centre, focus falls off towards the edge gradually. The 11 blade circular iris means pleasing smooth bokeh even when stopped down and wide open there’s even a hint of cats-eye shape right on the edge of frame.
Modern coatings mean higher contrast and more subtle flares which is a really interesting feel with the softer, detuned look.
